This work embodies the rebellious spirit of feminine beauty, representing strength and the embrace of change. It speaks to stepping into the unknown with the confidence that one possesses everything needed not only to survive but to thrive. The artist layers thin acrylic paint with oil paint and oil pastel, creating vibrant, dynamic compositions. The titles reflect a period of transformation in the artist’s life, marking a new chapter after her marriage in the summer of 2024.

This series represents an evolution from Rae's MA degree (2020-22), where she explored female empowerment and vulnerability through figurative oil paintings. Building on the layering techniques she developed during that time, this new series draws inspiration from the seventeenth and eighteenth-century Dutch Golden Age flower paintings by female artists like Rachel Ruysch and Flemish painter Clara Peeters. It delves into the feminine beauty of flowers, which Rae views as symbols of resilience and strength. She notes, "Flowers are often seen as beautiful and decorative, but they are so much more than that. Some flowers heal, others can poison. We find them growing in the most unlikely circumstances, and they have a lineage that spans hundreds or even thousands of years. They grow together in fields as far as the eye can see, yet each one remains individual."
