Against a soft yellow-green background, Poppies presents two vibrant red blooms, painted in oil on paper with expressive brushstrokes and layered colour. This contemporary floral artwork is inspired by my great-uncle, who fought in WWI and left behind his memoirs, though I never met him. In 2018, visiting the battlefields he experienced with my cousin was profoundly moving, and this painting channels that connection across time. Through gesture, texture, and colour, the poppies become a tribute to memory, courage, and resilience, transforming history into a living, expressive meditation on life, remembrance, and the enduring beauty of flowers.
