Highlights from my porfolio 2022-2024

Close-ups, 2022

Intelligent, 2022

This series consisted of close ups of the body. Often hands give an expression or help to create the mood. This work helped me to explore composition and to get the most out of the square format canvas. By using close ups I could explore paint freely.

Goddess, 2024

Under The Sea

Greek mythology fascinates me. The idea that a civilisation from 2000 years ago still influences our society, belief and our understanding of the world. I wanted to explore how women are portrayed in the stories, often damsels, delicate or jealous and to blame. These archetypes still follow us around today. I wanted to explore the female point of view, what might the Sirens say they're song is about? Was Medusa really a monster? Was Hera really a villain?

On The Heath, Heritage Landscapes 2024

Middleham Castle

History has always been a passion of mine, almost as much as art. In this series I explore castles, abbeys and heritage landscapes to bring the history to life. Where I can I like to focus on the female story. Castles are often thought of as masculine places of oppression or violence but women were often in charge of the day to day up keep, the finances and the running of business. Queens have made them a home, a space to entertain royality and the servants and staff kept these magnificent places going.

This series is called On The Heath inspired by Martlesham Heath in Suffolk where I grow up, connecting my own personal history to the work.

Rebellious Flora

I was looking for a new direction. I wanted to move away from figurative work but still keep with the feminine theme. Rebellious Flora is a response to the idea that flowers, and women, are beautiful and that should be the highest measure. But they are so much more. Flora can be deadly, they can heal, they can grow in unimaginable circumstances, through pavement cracks in extreme temperatures.

This is a new series started in June 2024 and is influenced and inspired by Dutch golden age floral paintings, and flowers connected to Greek myths. Many flowers have origins in Greek mythology and are connected to gods, goddesses and stories.
